Update: Never Mind… Just another cleverly cut piece of crap coverart for Mega Man 10. Damn you Capcom Unity.
I can’t help but wonder about Capcom Unity’s new post, urging commentators to post furiously to reveal new puzzle pieces for a “mystery art.”
By the time I’m posting this, seven pieces have been revealed, and it’s obviously containing Mega Man X, Zero and Dr. Light. The art is very much compared to the “retro-styled” crap for Mega Man 9 and 10, but honestly, by the time Mega Man X came along, Capcom wasn’t doing this sort of box art for the SNES titles. Could this mean that Capcom is secretly planning reveals for a new retro styled Mega Man X game? Or is this just another tease by the bloggers at Capcom, giving another random artist a moment to shine?
Of course, this is all speculative. Who knows, overall, should be an interesting art piece.
Possibly the ODDEST thing I’ve ever seen posted, and by The Nerd no less. “Mega Man runs. Mega Man jumps.” You have to watch this powerful 5 part series of videos. It’s like a bad fan fiction that actually got published, or a childrens book. I remember in the past that there was a guide book made for Mega Man 1, 2 and 3 that had a story built into it… I wonder if it was the same person.
Took me all night and morning, but I did a piece based on the new robot masters for Mega Man 10. I’m very interested in playing the newest installment of the classic series, and I’m curious if the fact that Mega Man 9 has befallen on the year 2009, as Mega Man 10 on 2010, if it’ll mean that a new MM game will appear on years to come. I can’t believe this, I haven’t played MM10 and I still want a Mega Man 11. hah! Enjoy the picture, it’s now my wallpaper
NOTE: Wait, my mistake… TECHNICALLY Mega Man 9 was released at the end of 2008, but… whatever.. details =P
The reveal of the new robot masters has finally come out. Thanks to IGN and their glorious roster of images. So the final complete list includes: Blade Man, a rather slender and unique looking three bladed robot. Strike Man, a baseball themed pitch master. Nitro Man, possibly a little brother adversary to Turbo Man who can transform into a motorcycle. Solar Man, a robot powered by the rays of the sun and uses the energy as balls of fire. Pump Man, a water powered robot with interestingly long hose arms who can… pump water… Chill Man, somewhere along the lines inspired by Batman’s Mr. Freeze costume and the essential ice themed enemy. and of course, Commano Man, a military grade weapons powerhouse with Sheep Man, an electric powered ball of menacing fluff.
Not long until the news of Mega Man 10, those who bought the Nintendo Power issue 250 got an exclusive look at another robot master, which, by far, might be a bit of an improvement after Sheep Man. I don’t know about you, but I think I have a new favorite.
Well, you can’t just leave the series hanging on an odd number now, can you? Thus it happened, Mega Man 10 is going to be the next big release on WiiWare, and this came as another HUGE surprise even after a year ago Capcom surprised us with a ninth “classic” styled installment. I found this image floating around, but I believe the credit goes to Nintendo Power. I’m actually pretty impressed. It’s not often we get such shocking news without having leaks of the game months in advance.
I can’t help but feel the series is turning into a joke upon first glance of Sheep Man. But considering how difficult the ninth game was, I’m sure he’ll whip our asses in due time. Inafune must be laughing his freakishly rich ass right now: “Bwahaha! I can do whatever I want!! Quickly my subjects, create for me Toilet Man!” I better stop joking, I’m sure he’ll be revealed in due time.
I’m also curious if they will continue the new tradition of a “Woman” robot. Who will they be? Only time will tell.
Here’s some highlighted info about the article involving the game itself, thanks to GoNintendo for the info:
- Mega Man is looking for a vaccine-making device to fight the ‘Robotenza’, which causes robots to overheat and go crazy
- play as Proto Man right from the start
- third playable character yet to be revealed
- computer-themed stage with mouse pointer enemies that draw boxes to throw at you, color-changing disappearing blocks, power treadmills and more
- lava level, vertically oriented, lava pools, block shaped enemies that can duplicate themselves, conveyor belts that push you down
- Sheep Man: turns into 4 clouds that hover above and attack with lightning, earn Thunder Wool for lightning attacks
- features an easy mode (thank God)
Here’s something that’s been bugging me for awhile now. There is an old manga called Rockman Remix, one of Ariga’s first Rockman anthology comics. This is probably the ONLY comic in which he included an extra chapter dedicated to a story based off Rockman X MegaMissions, a series of cards made by Cardass (*snicker*) ehem, at any rate… Something struck my fancy. There is a mysterious Maverick woman (GASP!) who seems to be Dr. Doppler’s assistant within the story. Here’s MY issue… What exactly IS HER NAME? She’s obviously created BY Ariga in purpose for the comic, but she’s still interesting, and I haven’t been able to find ANY information of her name (I also can’t seem to translate the copy of the book I DO have, it’s in Chinese.)
For the love of all that is Reploid, who is this? It’s been bugging me for awhile now.
Well this should come as no surprise concerning Udon, but I just got a message from Amazon.com that the release of the translation and US release of the Mega Man Complete Works is once again held back to November 30th. Udon has already had a reputation for releasing books far beyond their expected release date. And since the Mega Man X Complete Works is expected to have a separate release in December, one can only expect the book to be released sometime after New Years. I’m a patient man though, besides, I’m the one that has the official Japanese release of the book.
In due time Udon, in due time… We’ll play your little release game.
Well it’s official, the next Complete Works from Capcom is the CW for RockMan EXE, or the Battle Network Series. This has been a book I’ve actually been looking forward to for a long time now, and I’m certainly glad it’s not for the ZX series. Though I am still hoping that in the near future, RockMan Dash will be given the same treatment. Considering RockManEXE:OSS is basically a complete remake (not even a remake, more or less a DS port.) we can only wait and see what’s next in store for the other series’.
by the by… Apologies for the lack of updates, but I’m trying to see what kind of updates we can post from here on in. MMM needs more attention certainly!
Haha, of course, I’m not actually insinuating that the composers of Mega Man game music actually stole from other songs. Inspired is more like it, if not just coincidence — ‘course a lot of it does come from the 80s. What am I talking about anyway? Well surely you’ve noticed, perhaps listening to the radio. Occasionally, a song out there sounds kind of like a Mega Man song (and in fact, probably songs from a variety of games). Overdrive news site GoNintendo brought this one to my attention earlier today:
Fairly uncanny, no? But of course, this isn’t the only incident of Mega Man music mirroring songs by bands and performers. I think the most well known example is probably this:
Get into the GnR video at about two minutes in to hear the similarities. Incidentally, some figure this is why the Mavericks in Mega Man X5 all ended up with Guns N’ Roses inspired names. Next, another fairly well known similarity:
This one is so close it really does make you raise an eyebrow, but then Elec Man’s theme is pretty short and simple. I’ve heard some people say Elec Man’s theme in Powered Up sounds similar to Journey’s style. Up next, a fairly more obscure similarity that my friend Slash Raptor pointed out a while back:
This one’s a tad iffy to me. I’d say it’s more similar in style than actual melody. But perhaps you’ve noticed that, aside from “I’m a Man,” all of this music comes from the 80s. If all of this proves anything, it’s that the 80s was the best decade for music.
Finally, a runner up:
My friend Splashman reminded me of this one. I don’t think any part of the Mortal Kombat theme sounds too close to Snake Man’s intro riff, but this is a fairly common association.
Incidentally, I do recall hearing a rock song on the radio that had guitar chords very similar to the final Wily stage in Mega Man: Dr. Wily’s Revenge for Gameboy. Don’t recall any of the lyrics though, so I doubt I’ll find it. But, what songs do you know that sound like Mega Man music?
